About TruOwn
Making second-hand trade safer, one check at a time
Buying a used phone, car or laptop in Nigeria usually means trusting a stranger. There has been no simple way to confirm that an item isn't stolen, or that the person selling it is the one who owns it. Honest sellers have had no easy way to prove it either.
TruOwn is a shared ownership record. Owners register what they have. Anyone can check an item before they pay, for free and without an account. Ownership only moves when both sides confirm, and theft can be reported straight away, even by someone who has lost the phone they log in with.
TruOwn is in its early days. We'd rather tell you plainly what it does today than promise what it doesn't yet do, so our status page shows which services are live.
What we hold ourselves to
Verifiable, not just claimed
Every claim we make about the record being tamper-evident is true of the actual system, and you can check it yourself.
Private by default
The public check shows status only. The record itself stores pseudonymous IDs, never names or phone numbers.
Built for the street, not the desk
Light pages, large buttons and offline support, for a buyer standing in a market on a weak connection.
Honest about limits
TruOwn is a record, not a court. It supports the police and legal processes. It doesn't replace them.
