When a dispute opens
If you try to register an identifier (IMEI, VIN, chassis number, or a brand+serial combination) that someone else has already registered, TruOwn doesn't simply reject your registration. It opens a dispute: the existing item is flagged, and both you and the current record holder are asked to submit evidence.
Submitting evidence
Either side can upload evidence (receipts, photos, documents) through TruOwn. All communication about the dispute happens through the platform — we never share your contact details with the other party.
How it's resolved
A TruOwn admin reviews the submitted evidence and resolves the dispute in favor of either the original record holder or the new claimant. If resolved in the claimant's favor, the item's registration moves to their account. Either way, this decision affects the TruOwn record only — it does not constitute a legal finding of ownership, and doesn't replace a police report or court process if the underlying issue involves theft or fraud.
Withdrawing a claim
If you opened a dispute by mistake, you can withdraw it yourself at any time before it's resolved.
One rule that never bends
Once you complete a transfer of an item to someone else, you can never report that item lost or stolen again — you're no longer the current record holder. If you believe you were wrongly removed as the owner, your only path is to open a dispute with evidence, the same as anyone else.
